本展「私が見るもの──間と記」は、写真家シンヤBが都市の中で感じ取る身体の感覚や知覚の断片から、意味がはっきりと定着する以前の、揺らぐような視覚の瞬間をすくい上げる写真シリーズである。都市の細部や偶然の出会いを通して、私たちが無意識のうちに行っている「見ること」の成り立ちをあらためて見つめ直す。写真はこれまで、記録や表象、あるいは社会的意味の読解として論じられてきたが、本シリーズは、イメージが意味として固定される以前の知覚の状態に立ち返り、視覚がどのように立ち上がるのかという根源的な問いに焦点を当てている。この姿勢は、知覚と身体の関係そのものを探る実践として位置づけられ、シンヤBの作品は、身体と世界のあいだに生じる微細な揺らぎをすくい上げる点に特徴がある。写真は、そうした一回性の知覚を留めるための場として機能し、観者は完成された意味ではなく、「見ること」が生成される過程そのものに立ち会うことを求められる。

“Things I See: Pause & Notation” is a photographic series by Shinya B that gathers moments of perception arising from bodily sensation within the urban environment. Rather than resolving images into fixed meanings, the work holds on to visual moments that remain unsettled, before interpretation fully forms. Through details of the city and chance encounters, the series returns attention to the ways in which seeing is formed, often prior to conscious awareness. In contrast to approaches that frame photography primarily as documentation, representation, or social interpretation, this series turns back to perception itself. Shinya B’s photographs attend to subtle shifts that occur as the body comes into contact with the world, treating photography as a space in which singular, fleeting experiences of seeing can be recorded without closure. Viewers are invited not toward a completed meaning, but to remain with the process through which seeing comes into being.

シンヤBは、東京生まれの写真家、アーティスト、教育者である。アメリカの高校および大学を卒業後、報道機関での勤務を経て、大学院で写真を専攻し修了。現在はアメリカの大学で写真とアートを教えている。写真作品の制作・展示に加え、執筆、講義、写真コンテストの審査、ポートフォリオレビューなど、幅広い活動を行っている。主な個展に「Afterwords, Me」（東京・現代ハイツ、2013）、「『作例』──よくある質問と、消えていく写真の言葉」（東京・Place M、2022）、「私が見るもの：静寂と文法」（東京・世田谷美術館、2025）などがある。写真を通して、知覚や身体的経験から視覚が立ち上がる瞬間を探り続けている。

Shinya B is a Tokyo-born photographer, artist, and educator. After completing high school and undergraduate studies in the United States, he worked in news media before earning a graduate degree in photography. He currently teaches photography and art at an American university. Alongside his photographic practice, he is active as a writer, lecturer, juror for photography competitions, and portfolio reviewer. His recent solo exhibitions include “Afterwords, Me” (Gendai Heights, Tokyo, 2013), “‘Sample Images’ — Frequently Asked Questions and Words Disappearing from Photography” (Place M, Tokyo, 2022), and “Things I See: Silence and Grammar” (Setagaya Art Museum, Tokyo, 2025). Through photography, his work examines how visual experience emerges from perception, bodily sensation, and historically situated practices.
