「狭間の大地」は、喪失、孤独、そして距離という感情をたどる、私自身の内面的な旅です。これらは、多くの場合、故郷を離れて暮らす中で生まれる感情です。この展覧会は、過去と現在、故郷と異国、帰属と分離という、二つの世界の“狭間”から生まれたものです。

母と故郷を失った一人の人間の、消えかける記憶の光にすがるような心の声が、作品の中に込められています。

私の創作は、スリランカの民間伝承、寺院壁画、そして伝統的な物語から強く影響を受けています。長年かけて学んできた、私自身の文化的ルーツです。特に、古びたイメージや壊れた模様に惹かれます。それらは、ゆっくりと消えゆくものの魂を宿しているように感じられるのです。

同時に、日本での生活と学びを通して出会った、日本の民芸や日常美学にも強く影響を受けています。

アーティストであり研究者として、私はスリランカと日本、両国の伝統的なイメージや物語が、現代の人生、アイデンティティ、感情をどう表現できるかに関心を持っています。本展は、その探究の一部でもあります。文化や時代、芸術の伝統の狭間に生きる中での、静かな悲しみと記憶、そして居場所を求める心の表現です。

「狭間の大地」は、地図の上のどこかを指すものではありません。

それは“感覚”のことです。

記憶をそっと休ませ、痛みを和らげ、

「間（はざま）」という空間から声を上げるための場所です。

これはただのアートではありません。

これはただの詩でもありません。

これは、失われたものと、今もここにあるものに対する、

静かな向き合いです。

もしあなたが「狭間」に生きたことがあるなら、

この物語は、きっとあなたのものでもあるでしょう。

In Between Lands is a personal journey through feelings of loss, loneliness, and distance—emotions that often come from living away from home. This exhibition comes from the space between two worlds: past and present, home and elsewhere, belonging and separation. These artworks reflect the inner thoughts of someone who has lost both a homeland and a mother—holding on to memories that flicker like fading light.

My work is inspired by Sri Lankan folklore, temple murals, and traditional stories—cultural roots I’ve studied for many years. I’m especially drawn to old, worn-out images and broken patterns, which feel like they carry the spirit of something slowly disappearing. Alongside these, I’ve also been influenced by Japanese folk art and everyday aesthetics, which I’ve come to know deeply through life and study here in Japan.

As a researcher and artist, I’m interested in how traditional stories and images from both Sri Lanka and Japan can be used to express modern life, identity, and emotions. This exhibition is part of that larger study. It’s a quiet reflection on grief, memory, and trying to find your place between cultures, time periods, and artistic traditions.

In Between Lands is not about one place on the map—it’s about a feeling.

It’s about finding a place to rest memory, ease pain, and speak from the space in between.

This is not just art.

This is not a poem.

This is a gentle reckoning—with what has been lost, and what still remains.
